What is ear microsuction?
Ear microsuction is a method of removing ear wax using gentle suction under direct visualisation.
Compared with traditional ear syringing alone, microsuction avoids introducing large amounts of water into the ear canal and may be suitable for some patients who are not ideal candidates for irrigation.
Our doctors will assess which method is most appropriate for you.
Who may benefit?
You may benefit from ear wax removal if you have:
- blocked ears
- hearing reduction from wax
- recurrent wax build-up
- hearing aid wax obstruction
- discomfort or fullness
Not all blocked ears are caused by wax. Your GP will examine your ears to assess for infection, inflammation, eardrum problems or other causes.
Before your appointment
To improve the chance of successful wax removal:
- use olive oil or wax-softening drops for 2–3 days beforehand if advised
